PULBOROUGH's Lee Callagan played down hitting 15 runs, including two sixes, in the final over to win a thrilling Cockspur Cup first round match at home to Billingshurst.

Batting first, the visitors posted 203 all out, and early wickets saw Borough chasing a rain-hit game that came down to the very last ball.

Needing 14 runs from the last over, Callagan – nicknamed 'Lethal' – smashed a six with the last ball of the game to the delight of the home crowd, but quickly played down his winning contribution.
"They only call me lethal because my name's Lee, but it's nice to hit the winning runs," he said.

"With the rain delay there was a bit of pressure, I knew I needed to hit boundaries off the last over, but in the end you just swing and hope.

"It was a good fight, we would have been disappointed if the rain had spoilt the game, but it came down to a bit of luck at the end of the day."

Callagan finished on 28 not out from just 20 balls, ensuring Pulborough won the nail-biting game by three wickets.

Pulborough captain Rohit Jagota hailed his team's performance and said the crowd had witnessed the game of the season in the opening fixture.
"It was a great match, both teams played very well," he enthused.
"I don't think there will be a game like this all season."

The victory means Pulborough will face East Grinstead in round two.
