HORSHAM rued missed opportunities as Hastings and Bexhill claimed the Sussex derby spoils on Saturday.

With recent availability problems resolved, the Green and Whites entertained their rivals optimistic that their season would finally get underway, after a rallying call from coaches to 'front up'.

The first half seemed to confirm that optimism with the home team dominating territory and possession, the strong lineout and stable scrum kept the visitors in their 22 for long periods, and gave Horsham numerous attacking opportunities.

The problem was the lack of points that came from the pressure.

Afterwards coaches Mal Chumbley and Nick Stocker said: "The failure to execute cost us the game, we butchered 20 points in the first half and missed the chance to put the game beyond their reach."
