BEN Gumbrell's fine start to the season continued when he outpointed Portsmouth's Dave Lawson at his home show last week.

The Horsham ABC welterweight has worked hard to meet the 69kg limit, and is seeing his fitness work pay off.

Trainer Darren Roth said: "Ben did very well as he was actually giving a bit of weight away to his opponent, but his superior fitness and boxing skills came through and he boxed a good tactical bout."

Delighted with the victory, Gumbrell remarked: "My nose went in the first round and it made me back off and box more tactically, I'm pleased with the win."
