LUCY STICKLAND flew the flag for England with a silver medal at the Home Countries Schools International at the weekend.

Having won the English Schools title the previous weekend, Horsham Blue Star Harrier Lucy had to face UK under-17 number 1 Christina Hughes and had to settle for second behind the Welsh vaulter.

Lucy cleared 3.40metres, and shared silver spot with Ellie Basford from Essex in blustery conditions at Bedford.

"This was my most important competition so far and I was determined to do as well as I could," she said.
