LEADING archer Dawn Rowlands chalked up her third Grand Master Bowman accolade of the year, shooting at the Kent Championships.

The Holbrook Archer picked up the first two of her titles at the Sussex and Surrey Championships, the feat is even more remarkable as the sports ruling body, the Grand National Archery Society, reserves Grand Master Bowman status for only the best achievers and the title is rarely reached in the sport.

Shooting from the Olympic distance of 80 yards, Rowlands collected her honour after another dominant performance.

Rowlands, 64, commented: "It's great to have got the honour. It has been quite nerve wracking in my last two competitions to make sure I qualified.

"I tend to panic I'm afraid. I really have to stop myself plucking the string. I have to relax as much as possible."

Another Holbrook member, junior Daniel Phillips, aged 13, contributed to the Sussex Team score at the Southern Counties Championships.

Up against county teams from across the region the Sussex team came out top, Daniel shot a personal best.
