FORMER Horsham manager John Yems will mark a long journey from Queen Street to Wembley on Sunday when he helps lead out Exeter City for the Conference Premier play-off final.

Exeter will face Cambridge City at the 90,000 capacity stadium for a place in the Football League - (five) years after dropping out of League 2.

For Yems, on the coaching staff at Exeter since a move from Grays earlier in the season, promotion to the League will be a far cry from the days of the Isthmian League Division 3 when he was in charge at the Hornets.

"It has been a long journey from Queen Street to Wembley, via about 20,000 other clubs," Yems quipped.

"This time last year I had just been sacked by Crawley after the three of us (Yems, Ben Judge and Dave Woozley) had done well to keep them up.
"So now it's Wembley and there is no point going there thinking you are going to lose, after the last year I've had.

"We've been on the pitch and had a little run out. Exeter were there last year so for nine or ten of the squad it will not be a new experience.

"But you cannot say it's just another game, everyone involved in football would be lying if they said they didn't want to lead their side out at Wembley."

Exeter reached the final after thrilling play-off match against derby rivals Torquay United, losing 3-1 with 15 minutes to go, the Grecians pulled off a 5-3 win.

"At 3-1 down I thought we were going to win 7-3 - it was one of those games," Yems enthused.

"Cambridge are a very good side, I know a lot of people there and they are very hard working.

"It will be a good game."
