RUSSELL Eldridge's 40-yard free kick won the game for Horsham on their home debut at Woodside Road, but the game was marred by a horrendous injury to Eddie French.
Alex Harrow rounded off a nice team move to put the Hornet's in the lead in the first half, but Staines came back through Elliot Onochie.
But in an inoculous challenge French went down cluthching his ankle which was clearly broken, and he had to come off.
Both teams had chances but when Eldridge's set piece was missed by everyone Horsham rounded off an energetic display with a deserved win.

77 mins: Seuke makes another great save to push Newton's shot away, it falls to Butler who is again denied by Seuke, but he was offside anyway.
75 mins: Richard Butler has a penalty appeal turned down. He runs through and meets the onrushing Seuke, tumbles over him but no pen. Butler looks to be clean thorugh again but he takes a heavy touch and Seuke collects.
72 mins: What an effort from Lee Carney. From fully 45 yards he spots the keeper off his line and has a go. It looks like a goal all the way but as Wells stretches it comes back off the bar and onto him, but it rebounds just wide.
INJURY NEWS: The early news from the dressing room is that it's a possible double break of the ankle for Eddie French.

65 mins: Some slick football from Horsham after Carney had won the ball. Nice interchange between Carey and Carney to find Archilbold and then Charman, but he can't beat his man on the right.
It looks like a decent crowd have gathered to watch Horsham's first game at Worthing.

46 mins: Horsham get the second half underway.
HALF TIME: Horsham will be happy with their first 45 minutes at Woodside Road.
After a slow start they took the lead through Alex Haddow after a nice team move, but it didnt last for long as Staines equalised through Elliot Onochie on 35 minutes.
The Hornets have carved several good chances which have tested Louis Wells, but Staines have also had opportunities, so it's all setup for a stunning second half.
43 mins: More good work by Carey in the middle to spin his marker and knock the ball to Haddow on the left. He curls a cross into the box but the defender gets ahead of Baitup.
42 mins: Good play by Baitup chasing a Carey through ball on the right. He managed to get to the byeline and cut it back to the onrushing Carney, but the midfielder completely missed it and its cleared.

39 mins: The pacey Staines right back Jake Newton gets the ball from a free kick and runs past two challenges before dragging his shot wide.
36 mins: French makes amends with a last ditch tackle as the ball is played low into the box from the right.
35 mins: GOAL FOR STAINES: Elliot Onochie scores. He beat the onrushing eddie French far too easily and his momentum took him into the box and past Eldridge, and as Seuke came out he lifted it over him beyond the desperate lunge from Page. 1-1.
32 mins: Staines Keeper Wells makes a good save to deny the goalbound effort from the head of Baitup after Charman had crossed from the right
27 mins: GOAL FOR HORSHAM: A Lee Carey comes out to Haddow on the left, he lays it to Carney who threads a delightfully waited ball through back to him to outpace his defender and slot it in off the far post with his left foot. Slightly against the run of play.
23 mins: Eddie French puts in an excellent tackle to cut out a through ball and set up an attack down the left, Haddow drifts in a high cross which Wells palms clear on the stretch.
19 mins: Carney is robbed dithering on the ball in the middle by Davis Haule who then slides the ball through to Onochie, who cuts in onhis right foot but his weak shot is easily saved.
18 mins: Lewis Cook's left foot shot forces a good save from the legs of Paul Seuke.
17 mins: Howard Newton is looking lively on the Staines right, he's giving Eldridge a hard time and he has a pop from 25 yards but it's well over.
15 mins: Horsham go close to taking the lead, Charmans low ball is met by Baitup eight yards out but the keeper makes a point blank save, it eventually comes back to him but again his volley is saved low.
13 mins: Staines are having most of the attacking play, Horsham are looking a bit panicky at the back and keep hoofing it clear, but at the moment it just keeps coming back at them.
9 mins: Really good chance for Staines. Elliot Onochie squirms past French's challenge and is denied by a last ditch tackle from Page, who can only divert the ball straight to Newton to steady himself and blaze over the bar from seven yards.
7 mins: Lovely lofted ball from Lee Carey to find Charman down the left but he cant find anyone with the cross
6 mins: Lee Carney robs the ball off Lewis Cook in the middle and runs at the defence, they back off inviting him to shoot but he drags it wide from 20 yards.
2 min: Staines attack again down the left and a looping cross by Lewis Cook decieves Seuke and comes off the bar.
1 min: Early uncertainty for Horsham as a higg ball is missed by the head of Eldridge and it breaks to the right, but the cross is turned behind and Staines waste the corner.
Staines will kick off with Horsham playing from right to left wearing their green and yellow home strip. It has been raining for about an hour before kick off so it should zip about.
LEE Carney has shaken off his injury and starts in an unchanged Horsham lineup for their first 'home' game at Worthing against Staines Town.
Lee Farrell has injured himself in the warm up so is replaced on the bench by Jacob Mingle who is still struggling with a leg injury.
After their 4-2 opening day win, Staines will surely pose the Hornets a far bigger challenge after doing the double over them last season and finishing runners up in the playoffs.
