A GARY Charman goal in extra time won the Brighton Charity Cup for Horsham on their last appearance at Queen Street.

The Hornets should have wrapped things up long before James Rhodes sent the game into extra time with a goal against the run of play in the 84 th minute.

East Preston started the game better, scoring through Kevin Budge on 11 minutes, but goals from Lee Farrell and Lewis Taylor put the hosts in control, but they were made to pay for missing a host of second half chances.

But Gary Charman's winner late into extra time ensured Horsham lifted the cup infront of their supporters in their last game in the town for some time.


30 (+1) Charman cleverly wins a free kick down the left, and that's it, the final whistle blows and the crowd celebrate.

30 mins ex time: The rain is coming down, Farrell is offside and the free kick is knocked into the box for French to powerfully clear with his head.

28 mins: The full-of-running Farrell chases down a defender and deflects the ball to Taylor, he slams a shot which beats Rand but clatters off the bar and out.

27 mins: Farrell wastes some time by running it into the corner, he holds it off for a while and then it's out for a throw. Surely there's no way back for East Preston now?

25 mins: Horsham look to finish it, Taylor races doewn the right, plays it to Austin but his shot is blcoked for a corner, it's played short and eventuall ends up in the keepers hands.

22 mins: Preston sub. Goal scorer Budge comes off for Charlie Oatway.

21 mins: Austin is working down to close the East Preston backline as they pass it around and forces a misplaced pass.

19 mins ex time: GOAL FORM HORSHAM: Salaam is fouled on the edge of the box but the ref plays on as the ball falls to Charman to strike it firmly into the bottom of the goal. Relief all round.

17 mins ex time: East Preston force a corner, which Graves head out for another, it's played short to Richard Carter who has a tricky run in the box but is closed out.

That's the end of the first half of extra time, Horsham don't want this to go to penalties, they'll want to kill the game off before.

13 mins: The crowd hold there collective breath as the ball is floated to the back post from Austin, Charman is waiting but only heads weakly at the keeper.

12 mins ex time: Horsham Sub. Mingle is replaced by the fresh legs of Danny Davies.

11 mins ex time: Charman is brought down on the edge of the box, the free kick is in a dangerous position but Taylor blasts it over.

9 mins: Rhodes gives the ball to Budge and he strikes it hard but straight at Baxter, but the flag has gone up anyway.

7 mins: Horsham continue there dominence, good work from Taylor to Salam, who feeds him again to cross but it's too close to the goal keeper.

5 mins ex time: Taylor gives away a needless free kick tugging on Keet's shirt.

2 mins ex time: Charman wins a throw after beating his defender and his cross is cleared.

1 min ex time: The 30 minutes begins, Horsham fans are trying to lift their team, French defends a through ball after Taylor's loose pass.

The game will go into extra time as Horsham are punished for missing a glut of chances to kill the game off in the second half, James Rhodes pounces after Baxter had saved to level the game late on.

Horsham were pushing for a killer goal but it just would not come, and now they have to do it the hard way if they want to leave their historic Queen Street home with a win.

90 (+4) First yellow of the night goes to Rhodes for a miss timed challenge on Charman. Charman's not happy and reacts angrily. The free kick finds the head of Taylor, but he flicks his header wide of the post as the final whistle goes.

90 (+2) Salaam is denied a clear free kick, he's barged over as he goes to cross but the ref ignores it.

90 mins: Farrell so nearly wins the game, Mingle plays it to him, he drops his shoulder and strikers it from seven yards but it rolls angonisingly wide of the far post.

89 mins: Another good save denied Horsham. Mingle combines with Salaam on the right, delivers a cross which finds Taylor's head, but he can't get a great deal of power on it and Rand tips it over. Horsham waste the corner.

87 mins: Lee Farrell with a chance late on, Charman puts him in but from a tight angle on his left he can only shoot wide.

86 mins: Only a great low save keeps Horsham from regaining the lead, Taylor shoots hard and low and the crowd think it's in, but Rand gets a hand to it for a corner, which Horsham waste.

84 mins: GOAL FOR EAST PRESTON: Disaster for Horsham. some clever football puts Budge in on goal, his shot is saved but comes back to James Rhodes to put in.

82 mins: Horsham sub, Geard is given a rappturous round of aplause as he is replaced by Simon Austin.

81 mins: Geard flashes another wide of the post from just outside the box.

80 mins: Another chance goes begging. Taylor breaks through the middle, dummies a shot and steadies himself before shooting wide. Will they regret these at the end?

79 mins: East Preston sub. Charlie Oatway on for Seb Keet.

The away supporters are trying to inspire their team, there's not many of them but they are making a lot of noise behind the East Preston goal.

76 mins: Eddie FRench shows why he wears the armband with a superb sliding challenge to win the ball off Tom Lawler as the winger looked to be through on goal.

75 mins: East Preston nearly score, a cut back cross finds Darwin but his shot is blocked and Baxter holds on.

74 mins: Salaam is getting loads of space on the right, his cross is cleared.

73 mins: Farrell breaks forward, plays it to Mingle whoes cross causes panic in the box, it falls to Charman on the edge and he's fouled. Geard hits the free kick over.

71 mins: A rare East Preston attack sees Carter break down the right but he shoots straight at Baxter.

Horsham have all of the ball and are creating chance after chance but need to kill the game off as they are only one ahead.

68 mins: A crossfield ball finds Mingle on the right, he puts it inside for Salaam who had burst forward, cuts onto his left and curls one wide of the goal.

66 mins: Slick play again by the hosts, Charman gets the ball in the box but his strong shot is pushed out for a corner, which comes in to Graves' head but again it is saved.

64 mins: More good football from the Hornets, a lovely little ball inside from Mingle finds Taylor, he runs at the defence and plays it to Farrell, but the angle is tight and eventually it's blocked by defenders.

63 mins: Another shot from Geard after good work from Taylor, straight at the keeper.

62 mins: East Preston sub. Chris Darwin replaces Paul Churchill upfront.

61 mins: The home supporters clap some more good football, Salaam passes inside to Geard, who opens his body and strikes it with his left, but it's wide.

59 mins: The ball falls to Geard on the edge, but it takes an age to drop and his shot is charge down for a corner.

58 mins: Taylor is lucky to escape a yellow after tugging back Richard Carter in the middle as he ran past him. Just a free kick

55 mins: Storming run from Taylor to run past two players in the middle, he lays the ball to Charman who plays it to Farrell but he shoots high over the bar.

52 mins: Really good little interchange between Mingle and Geard on the right, Geard returned the pass but his cross is cleared.

50 mins: Some good passing along the backline finds Chraman on the left, he skips passed Williams but his cut back misses everyone.

49 mins: Farrell does well to find Taylor on the right, his cross is met by the keeper though as Farrell jumps and fouls him.

47 mins: Horsham will have to be careful not to conceed and let Preston back into this, some good work on the left sees Paul Williams overlap James Rhodes, but his low cross is cleared.

Horsham lead at half time with goals from Lee Farrell and Lewis Taylor, after Kevin Budge had given East Preston an early lead.

The Hornet's made a slow start to the match and deserved to be behind, but a good finish from Farrell and one from Taylor has put the hosts in charge as they dominated the last 20 minutes.

Matt Geard, playing just off Farrell in an unfamiliar position, has been excellent with a hand in both goals, and Maggs will want more of the same from his men in the remaining 45 minutes.

Horsham are definately on top here as the half time whistle blows, they have had all of the ball for the last 15 minutes and it could easily have been more.

44 mins: Another great chance. Salaam crossed from the right for Lewis Taylor to chest down in the box, he tried to knock it over the keeper but Rand plucked it out of the air.

42 mins: GOAL FOR HORSHAM: Horsham take the lead through Lewis Taylor. Gear slipped the ball through to Farrell who was one on one, the keeper got a hand to it as he tried to round him but Farrell got the ball back and had the presence of mind to lay it across the box for Taylor to drill home2

40 mins: Jacob Mingle gets the ball just outside the area, fains to shoot then dinks a cross to Lewis Taylor in the box, but his header is straight at the keeper.

39 mins: Calm defending from Graves, facing goal with a man on his back he just passed it away.

35 mins: Early Horsham sub, Kevin Hemsley is replaced by Yinka Salaam. He didn't seem to be injured.

Horsham are starting to dominate possession, Preston have dropped off the allowing the Hornets to pass the ball around and search for openings.

31 mins: Geard has made a good start upfront. He's dropping in the hole to pick up the ball, and he snatched possession to run at goal and fizz a daisycutter just wide.

27 mins: GOAL FOR HORSHAM: Lee Farrell scores. A great slid pass from Bolger cuts out three defenders and finds Farrell's diaganol run in the box and he places it in the bottom left for 1-1.

24 mins: Good sliding tackle from Bolger to halt the run of Lawler as he cut inside, he looks a threat down the Preston right.

22 mins: A good chance for Preston. Looked like a foul on Myall but no whistle as Lawler sped towards goal down the right, but he could only slide it just wide of the post.

20 mins: Good save from Rand to deny Farrell. He was fed by Geard in the box and with his back to goal turned and smashed it at goal but Rand tipped it over.

19 mins: Good skill from Charman to lift the ball over a Preston player's head and set up a long rang shot, it has pace but is straight down Rand's throat.

16 mins: Good chance for Horsham. Matt Geard cuts back onto his left foot and delivers a deep cross to the back post where the waiting Charman can only head down and wide. He should have done better.

East Preston have started the better, Tom Lawler beats Charman and whips one from the right, the dangerous ball is cleared.

14 mins: Free kick from Myall is headed on by Graves but it's straight at the keeper.

13 mins: Again Preston threaten, Budge cutting in from the right to lay the ball to Rhodes whoes shot is held by Baxter.

11 mins: GOAL FOR EAST PRESTON: Kevin Budge lashes home with his left foot from eight yards out after a cross from Paul Churchill is headed across the goal falling kindly for the forward.

9 mins: Geard feeds Graves on the right, his cross finds Charman at the back post who lays off for Mingle to blaize well over.

7 mins: The ball is played into Kevin Budge in the box, but the striker fails to bring it down and the chance is cleared.

6 mins: Some good passing football between Mingle and Taylor on the right, he lays it to Farrell but his return pass is just too strong.

It's stopped raining but the pitch looks a bit sticky, the ball is going to hold up in places.

3 mins: Horsham have a corner but it misses everyone.

HORNETS' boss John Maggs throws a curve ball into tonight's final starting Matt Geard upfront alongside more familiar striker Lee Farrell, under-18s keeper Tom Baxter starts in goal.

Lewis Taylor returns to the starting line up as Dwaine Clarke misses out, Gary Charman starts on his favoured left wing as Horsham look to retain the trophy with a strong team.

East Preston, lying in fourth place in Sussex County Division 1, will be looking to upset the odds and take home the trophy.
