TALENTED teenager Alex Finch has continued her surge to stardom by being named in the under-18 England Development squad.

After being spotted by scouts captaining the South East England team in a national tournament, the 16-year-old from Horsham was asked to come along to a days trial at a high performance academy in London.

She impressed enough to be invited to a three-day trial in Glouscester where she was put through her paces, and after an agonising weeks wait she heard she had made the squad.

"It was really intensive and I didn't think I had made it because I was really unwell on the second day," said Alex, who is gearing up for the new season as vice captain at Worthing Rugby Club.

"My mum came and told me that I had received a letter saying I'd got in and I was so happy I was tearful and went to tell my dad and my boyfriend."

As well as playing for Worthing and the South East England team, Alex will now be part of a squad of 32 for England under-18s.
