HORSHAM spinner Will Beer made his County Championship debut for Sussex today in the start of their match against Nottinghamshire.

The 19-year-old lines up with fellow Horsham players Chris Nash and Andrew Hodd in the Sussex team for the four-day match.

With this morning's news that legendary spinner Mushtaq Ahmed has retired from county cricket, Beer will be hoping to impress in his first game and stake his claim for a chance to fill the Pakistani's rather large boots.

Sussex won the toss and elected to bat, with Nash making 28 before being trapped by former England bowler Mark Ealham and Hodd putting on just five.

Beer impressed for England Under-19s against New Zealand earlier this month, and will be hoping to continue his good form with wickets at Hove when Notts start their reply.
