Baxter seconds away from cycling medal

RIDING at the same venue where Britain's Olympic heroes honed their preparations for Beijing, Beyond Maountian Bike rider Mark Baxter enjoyed a good week.

Baxter, a member of the Cranleigh-based Beyond Mountain Bikes club, was competing in the National youth pursuit championships at the Newport velodrome.

He had been performing well on the road all season and was hoping to post a fast time, this he did managing a time of 3mins 27seconds for the 3,000metre race which saw him take seventh place just seconds away from a medal in a closely contested race.
