A LOCAL MP visited a flourishing business in Ashington last week.

Nick Herbert (Con, Arundel and South Downs) paid a visit to Kate's Cakes on Friday (February 22) to find out how the successful bakery business ran.

Mr Herbert was given a briefing about the large business and took the opportunity to meet staff on the factory floor.

"I was delighted to visit such a successful local business and interested to hear how it has grown," explained Mr Herbert.

"I hadn't appreciated that Kate's Cakes supply quite a few of the cakes sold by stores like M&S and Waitrose - I must admit to buying quite a few of them.

"They're also in our canteen in the House of Commons.

"I don't think I would be employed as a cake maker though - the one I tried to ice had to go for emergency repairs afterwards."

On Sunday February 17, a Kate's Cakes team led by Tim Breden raised money for The Chestnut Tree Children's Hospice by running the Brighton Half Marathon.

Full report in the County Times.

Many shops remain open on Bank Holiday Mondays. Do you think:
They should be open
They should all close
It should be the decision of individual shops
