MILLIONS of pounds have been awarded to Shoreham Harbour which could bring up to 10,000 new homes and thousands of jobs.
The government announced today (Wednesday, July 16) that the harbour is to achieve "growth point" status, which will see millions of pounds invested in it to build new homes, create 7,750 jobs in the area, a new public beach and possibly a new rapid transport system link from Brighton and along the coast, with the up-grading of railway stations.

SEEDA, (South East England Development Agency) said the announcement recognised the contribution that Shoreham Harbour could potentially make to the economic development prospects of the area, while focussing on regeneration measures that will benefit existing communities and reverse deprivation.

SEEDA chairman James Braithwaite said: "This is a major opportunity to create new homes and jobs and to link these south coast communities of Shoreham and Brighton and Hove with new, sustainable transport systems.

"The scheme will involve significant upgrades to public transport, and measures to improve long-term flood protection for the wider area."
