Unit’s work with young people

The Horsham Scouts Support Unit (HSSU) is a group of adults who provide ‘active support’ to Scouting in Horsham, by volunteering some time to Scouting in a flexible way that suits them.

The purpose of Scouting is to contribute to the development of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potentials as individuals, as responsible citizens and as members of their local, national and international communities.

The HSSU helps with organising and supporting the activities for these young people such as help with daytime and overnight hikes and indoor and outdoor district events for various age groups.

It welcomes adults of all interests, abilities and backgrounds. There is no requirement to have been involved in Scouting or Guiding before joining but many readers of the County Times will have been young members of the Scout or Guide movements. Some will have been leaders in the past.

Anyone over 18 who believes in what Scouting does is welcome to join the HSSU. There is no upper age limit. All that is required is a willingness to volunteer some time to support Scouting.

As well as helping with activities there are regular social meetings with like-minded people such as the HSSU annual barbecue on the evening of Thursday August 30.

Anyone who is interested in finding out more about the Unit and what we do is welcome to come along to the barbecue.
