I WAS interested to read the story of Mike Holmwood, a local relation of John James Charman who perished in the Titanic disaster (County Times April 5). There must be many other relations still living in the Horsham area as the Charmans were a prolific family to say the least.
I am a second cousin once removed of John Charman, as are my four cousins - three of whom still live in the town. It would be good to hear of any other local residents who can trace their relationship to this man.
The West Sussex County Times printed an article on April 18, 1986 by local historian Frank Holmes, entitled ‘Breed that built the Empire’, in which he wrote about the same branch of the Charman family.
I am still in close touch with the Australian descendants of one of those who emigrated in the mid-1800s.
