After the appalling barrage of sound, on the evening of Saturday November 3, from firework displays in local gardens, which terrorised one of my dogs to such an extent he was a shaking wreck for over five hours, I am moved to ask why we allow this to happen.
The animals suffer while we seek enjoyment in creating louder and louder displays that mimic the sounds of war.
What is wrong with us? We used to be content with the beauty of simple colourful displays.
I feel the time has come for us to we keep the pyrotechnics to public displays on a couple of set days each year and a ban to be imposed on any loud sounds in private gardens.
That way our terrified pets will be spared some of the truly distressing misery inflicted on them by self-centred, thoughtless people.
