LETTER: Wrong to build on green fields

I was amazed to see that planning permission has been given for the building of 600 homes on 250 acres of prime agricultural land at Pease Pottage, this is no small development and will totally ruin this rural area.

Was it not only last year Mid-Sussex Council said the site was not suitable for development so I wonder what could have happened to change their view?

Then I saw that St Catherine’s Hospice had been granted some land there for the building of a new hospice providing planning permission was given for the development of this greenfield site which makes sense, however, in any other sort of business, would this not be thought of as a sweetener?

There is a definite shortage of housing in the South East, but surely this decision is wrong in so many ways and sets a dangerous precedent for further building in this rural area, and building on greenfield sites should be a last resort. The council is wrong to grant planning permission in this case and should admit its mistake.
