I was intrigued by the front page article in last week’s County Times (Horsham edition), reporting that Horsham District Council plans to object to the expansion of Gatwick Airport.
It is recognised by all concerned, that an expansion of Gatwick will create thousands of new jobs. For a council that has overseen the loss of hundreds if not thousands of jobs in its area, the question has to be asked, why would HDC object to an expansion at Gatwick ?
The answer is, of course, sheer hypocrisy and, with elections looming, a desire to ingratiate itself with the electorate.
At least the expansion of Gatwick guarantees the creation of new jobs, which is more than can be said for the development north of Horsham.
