LETTER: Well-designed replacement

Have your say

Cllr Leonard Crosbie is right when he says that the Shelley Fountain’s design was adventurous and ingenious.

He is also right to say that it could not keep going on forever if it does not function properly. The whole design rests on the impact of the moving parts. Perhaps it was too adventurous and ingenious for its own good…

There will never be a public art installation that pleases all the people all the time – there will a mixture of relief and grief when it is removed.

The site is of significant importance in the town and it would be good to see a well-designed replacement.

Can we have something that enhances the space without the need for complicated machinery but that offers us more than just a flowerbed?

JENNIFER PEARCE
