One aspect of the welfare system that needs a little more scrutiny is the Jobseekers Allowance.
This entails applying and signing on every week at Horsham, for people who through no fault of their own have been made redundant. OK for those who live in town within walking distance, but applicants who need to travel into town by bus from outlying villages incur fares of almost £7, and in consequence are £7 worse off.
That amount of money to a single mum is a couple of evening meals.
How fair is that?
I don’t think this happens in some other towns.
