LETTER: The vestments of tradition

Although referred to by the Rev Nick Flint as '˜evolving', the Church of England's willingness to change in order to line up with secular society's demands amounts to nothing more than the unravelling of its rites and ceremonies, all of which are based on Christ's teachings in accordance with the Bible.

Once a thread is pulled in the vestment of tradition, the road to ruin begins.

Civil Partnerships are available to those who do not qualify, or cannot, marry in church. They are recognised in law and same sex couples already take advantage of them.

A service of Holy Matrimony in church should remain the preserve of men to women only, but having already abandoned so much tradition, the Church of England will probably capitulate soon and, if for no other reason, introduce ‘gay’ marriage because it will not want to miss out on the lucrative business of weddings.

When enough threads have been lost from the vestment, the garment will no longer be fit for purpose.
