Letter: Resolve to volunteer

NEW YEAR is traditionally the time to make resolutions but for many of us those resolutions may wilt during the dark evenings and cold weather.

But with February upon us and the daffodil bulbs beginning to show, perhaps you could consider making resolutions now and think about offering some spare time to a voluntary role within the community?

So whether you are someone considering volunteering or a voluntary organisation seeking volunteers, the following may help you make and keep that resolution.

Horsham Volunteer Centre (HVC) – thinking about volunteering but need some guidance on what opportunities are out there? Then why not arrange an appointment to come in and see us – give us a ring on 01403 232100 or visit our brand new website which has information about news and events as well as our latest opportunities: www.horshamvolunteercentre.wordpress.com.

Do-it! – Don’t have time to pop in and see us? Then why not visit www.do-it.org to view all the voluntary opportunities registered with Horsham Volunteer Centre – you can even apply online.

Follow HVC – by signing up to ‘Follow’ us on the HVC website – you will get notifications of updates to the site.

Skillshare West Sussex - is free to use and is an initiative designed to provide bite-sized volunteering opportunities of between one and ten days to students, professionals and businesses. The idea is that good volunteering opportunities should be more easily available to those who want to help their community or charity, but can’t promise a long commitment or regular hours.

So whether are you a professional with a few hours to spare or a voluntary organisation looking for someone to help write a business plan or a business looking to develop mutually beneficial relationships with local community organisations and social enterprises and receive excellent publicity by allowing staff just one day per year away from work to volunteer, then visit www.skillshare-westsussex.org.uk.

Supporting Volunteers Day – February 22 – tickets are still available but running out fast for this excellent event.

If you are involved in the recruitment and management of volunteers then this is the day for you, as many ‘hot’ topics will be addressed through a series of workshops on the day – visit www.westsussexvolunteering.org.uk/events to find out more – we look forward to seeing you on the day.
