LETTER: Protection for green space

Back in 2015 much comment and consternation was made in this paper, by HFC supporters, when their application to build a major football development (as described by HDC) on the golf course at Denne Park was refused.

HFC supporters complained the refusal was down to spooky horses, and blamed the councillors for being anti-football. There was no mention that it went against many countryside policies which are there to protect open green space for quiet and informal recreation.

It was these same policies that were once again used in October 2016 to refuse an eco friendly property within 150m of HFC’s proposed site. This house was two storey, yet still lower in height than HFC’s new supposedly single storey clubhouse, and would have concreted over much less land. The house had no floodlights, stadiums, plastic pitches and high netting, there was no new business in the countryside or additional noise to this quiet recreational area, yet still this property was refused.

Let’s hope the council remains consistent in their conclusions, or the new HFC application will set a precedent for other developers to follow, and our countryside will no longer be protected. Allow this developer (Reside) to build on the Holbrook club and your sports pitches/green spaces will be next to be built on and your amenity forced out of town. Worrying
