LETTER: More private housing isn't the answer

Everyone involved in the housing debate uses the words affordable and crisis to attract media attention.

Put a figure on ‘affordable’. It is impossible to build any form of housing other than possibly a one bedroom flat in this area for less than what - say £200,000.00?

Let’s see the cost of the units in the proposed new development in Piries Place and argue if they are affordable.

There is no crisis in the housing market, a new small development of four bedroomed detached houses in a coastal village north of Newcastle going for £199,000.00, still mostly unsold... what crisis?

We do not need any more private development in Horsham. It does not provide homes for the homeless, it does not drive down house prices, and it won’t help cure any perceived housing crisis, all it does is make lots of money for the developer.

The only crisis I see is in the NHS and the care of our older folk. Will they use the increase in council tax this year to help in this area?

Or will they put more stupid lights under the West Street pavement?
