Letter: Historical inaccuracies

FIRSTLY, Sarah Page, in her article in the December 29 County Times, implies that Isaac Newton propounded the hypothesis that nothing could travel faster than light. It was, of course, Albert Einstein who first put forward this theory.

Secondly, she implies that the Rising Universe (Shelley Memorial Fountain) was commissioned by Horsham District Council.

I seem to remember that it was first commissioned by another organisation which, having seen the finished article and assessed its artistic merit and mechanical and hydraulic design, rejected it.

The council was then able to obtain it, presumably at a somewhat reduced price.
