Letter: Get involved in Horsham district Year of Culture

As Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure, I very much welcomed two contributions to the letters page on 31 August '“ '˜Critical role in home defence' and '˜Memorial to poet Shelley', where the authors shared their ideas on how, as a district, we might celebrate part of our rich heritage.

We would welcome all suggestions and encourage residents to get involved by organising their own events in partnership with the council.

The Year of Culture presents a massive opportunity for our district’s community partners and businesses to showcase the diverse cultural offerings that are on offer in Horsham district.

Above all, there will be something for everybody of all ages and interests, bringing people together to have fun in celebrating all that is great about our diverse culture, heritage and the arts.

More than anything we want people to get together, get involved and enjoy it all!

The Year of Culture will be officially launched this month when we will be talking to local businesses and community partners and inviting them to become involved, sponsor events and apply for funding to help kick start or develop their cultural projects.
