LETTER: Campaign to save our NHS

Horsham Labour Party supports the People’s NHS campaign for a publicly owned and run NHS.

We believe this model provides the taxpayer with the best value for money and is best placed to protect the founding ideals of the service being free at the point of need.

We are not alone in our support for the NHS (‘Horsham households call for NHS to be protected‘ West Sussex County Times 2 July 2015 ) as reported in last week’s County Times.

The People’s NHS campaign highlights the dangers posed from privatisation and also the risk posed by the TTIP trade agreement which is currently being negotiated between the EU and the US government.

TTIP could provide large corporations with the opportunity to take UK governments to court simply on the basis that the corporation was of the opinion, due to any contract change, that they were no longer making sufficient profits out of the NHS.

Horsham Labour Party believes that there is no place for profiteering within our health service.

We also believe that a proposal that would allow multinational corporations to hold the British government to ransom as they seek to deliver ever greater levels of shareholder profit, should be opposed.

Many MPs support the campaign to exempt the NHS from TTIP.

It would send a clear message to Horsham’s former MP Francis Maude, the government minister responsible for these negotiations on behalf of the UK government, if his successor Jeremy Quin also joined the campaign and pledge his support for the People’s NHS campaign on behalf of Horsham residents who want to save our NHS .
