Horsham Football Club have put in yet another planning application to build on the green fields of Denne Park, currently enjoyed by many walkers, bird-watchers, horse riders and lovers of the countryside.

The football club have selected a site that is in the green belt, surrounded by ancient woodland, with a lovely pond in the centre that is of national significance when it comes to great crested newts. If all those factors were not enough, they are proposing to site their ‘junior’ pitch right at the end of a golf driving range, with some holes of the golf course on the other side of the pitch. The ‘main’ football pitch is alongside the golf driving range, and will be a tempting target for many golfers. You could not make this up!

If these issues were not enough, the site is very distant from most parts of Horsham and has dangerous pedestrian and cycle access up the hill along the Worthing Road.

And to cap it all off, the football club are looking to fund this ludicrous venture by selling off half of the sports pitches at the Holbrook Club to build houses on. The Holbrook Club is well-sited in the middle of North Horsham and is an established and popular venue, and it seems wrong to be selling off sports pitches at such a location.

With all the house building and general construction around Horsham and Southwater, with more coming along soon in North Horsham, you would have thought that the football club would have co-ordinated with Horsham District Council and found a better site, like Broadbridge Heath FC have managed to do.
