IN RESPONSE to Richard M Lowe’s query about spring rainfall in Horsham (WSCT 16 June), my husband has kept detailed weather records since November 1987.

Sadly, he died at the end of last month leaving this detailed and fascinating glimpse of the weather in our local area.

From these records we have calculated the spring rainfall figures since the year 2000.

The average Spring (March, April & May) rainfall for the 11 years from 2000 to 2010 is 170mm. This year we have had 36mm. Just 21% of the average; no wonder our gardens are dry!
