Dismay over licence ruling

It is with dismay that I learn that yet again the youth of Horsham have been forgotten in the council’s latest plans. As of 1st August 2012, Horsham Youth Centre will be in the direct control of WSCC and it has decided that these premises are to be no longer used as a community venue.

This was a popular place for young teens to have safe, controlled, alcohol-free parties. Where does the council propose these sorts of events are now held? A quick search on Google reveals that there is no where else in this region that offers this type of service at such an affordable price.

With the almost daily media coverage of anti-social behaviour attributed to children being bored, surely the council should realise that by slowly eradicating youth facilities, this will only lead to an increase of kids just hanging around the streets because they have no where else to go.

The reason the council gave for the Horsham Youth Centre’s Public Entertainment Licence being revoked is ‘that this doesn’t fit within the new operational model and service level agreement with the County Council’s premises teams who will now be responsible for the building’.

I don’t quite know what that is supposed to mean but it seems to me like this may be code for let’s sell the site off to redevelopers.
