Last week the College of Richard Collyer’s and Horsham were delighted to welcome former chief Spanish AQA Examiner, Derek Bacon, who hosted a conference to 125 modern foreign language AS and A2 students.

The conference focused on good essay writing techniques for key language examination units.

Margarita Mortimer, head of Spanish at Collyer’s, said: “It has been our pleasure to welcome a nationally renowned languages expert to Collyer’s.

“He was truly inspirational and our students were really enthused by his insightful comments and practical advice.”

Melissa Lord who studies Spanish and French said: “It was very informative, especially as I learn two languages.

“I appreciated the comments about practice being needed, and to this end have been doing more writing in my

study periods.”

Jackie Johnston, Collyer’s prinicpal, said: “We have a strong languages department here at Collyer’s and these events help to maintain the high standards we set ourselves.

“Huge thanks to Derek Bacon for kindly sharing his expertise with us. I’m delighted that the students thoroughly enjoyed the conference.”
