Horsham YMCA manager Peter Buckland is already organising for next season after what he has labelled as a ‘wasted’ campaign in County League Division 1.

YM had their eyes on promotion into the Ryman League this season, but have had a hugely indifferent time in a fiercely-competitive division.

We’ve made our minds up and we’re definitely not messing about next season.

They are still aiming for a top-six finish, but plans are already underway for next year.

Buckland said: “We’re organising now, without saying too much, for next season, and I really mean that.

“I feel that this is a season absolutely wasted. It’s frustrating, but it is what it is and I still feel that we will finish in the top six.”

The YM boss hopes 18-year-old centre-back Luc Doherty, who has impressed at the heart of the defence since signing on loan from Burgess Hill, can spur them in a promotion push.

He added: “He is a great signing and hopefully it looks like we are going to keep him for next season. They (Burgess Hill) are quite happy for him to be here and we’re quite happy to keep him.

“He would be a good signing, along with two or three others. We’ve made our minds up and we’re definitely not messing about next season. “
