Gifts in wills are vital says Five Oaks trust

FIVE OAKS charity The Dame Vera Lynn Trust is playing its part in the UK’s largest cross charity campaign, Remember A Charity Week, from September 12 to 18.

The week, now in its third year, sees more than 140 charities from around the country joining together to highlight the importance of gifts left to charities in wills.

Charitable donations in wills are the foundation of many of Britain’s charities, creating nearly £2 billion each year, the equivalent of 20 Comic Reliefs. Without this income most charities’ services would suffer; others would simply not exist.

The Dame Vera Lynn Trust will join charities up and down the country encouraging staff, volunteers and supporters to take a moment to think about their favourite charity and what a legacy could do for them.

Carole Whorwood, from the Dame Vera Lynn Trust, said: “Gifts in wills are a vital part of our income and previous legacies have enabled us to expand our services to increase the number of families who attend our School for Parents.

“‘Remember a Charity’ week helps to promote the awareness of leaving a gift to charity in your will and we are pleased to be involved in this year’s campaign along with local company Spofforths”.

The Dame Vera Lynn Trust School for Parents has a special place in the development of Conductive Education in this country and currently supports around 80 families.

The School for Parents works in partnership with parents to educate pre-school children with motor learning difficulties.

The trust receives no statutory funding and relies entirely on the support of the community to raise the funds needed each year to ensure that this vital and much needed service can continue.
