Two friends are aiming high in a fundraising skydive to ‘give something back’ to two hospitals they feel they have personal reasons to thank.
Ellie Wren will be doing the charity challenge for St George’s Hospital in Tooting where her sister had operations to save her life. Her friend Sophie Nulty will be doing it in aid of Great Ormond Street Hospital where a family friend was treated.
Ellie, who lives in Nuthurst, said: “My sister Emma had about four different operations following an accident.
“She broke her foot and had to have reconstruction on it and also had a back operation.
“The accident happened about two years ago in April and they said she would never walk again but thanks to the hospital she did.
“Emma has said she’s really proud of me and thankful for what I’m doing and I know she’d do something like this if she could.”
The girls, both 16, will be jumping 10,000 feet out of an aeroplane in Essex on April 21 and hope to raise £500 each.
Sophie, of Northgate, Crawley, said: “My mum’s best friend’s niece was at Great Ormond Street for about 17 months and I wanted to do something for them.
“I’m actually excited because I love heights and anything thrilling so we wanted to do something more extreme.
“I think my family are more nervous for me than I am.”
Ellie added: “It will be scary but will be alright in the end.
“We’re hoping to raise £500 each but the more the better.
“We’re aiming high and just want to give something back.”
