VIDEO: Police advise motorists not to make unnecessary journeys
Police are warning motorists to only drive if your journey is essential.
In the last 24 hours police have attended more than 300 collisions across the county, but no one suffered any life-threatening injuries.
Many people were forced to stay in their cars over night on the worst affected roads including the A23 and M23.
West Sussex Gritters, @WSCCGritting, have told of their progress claiming to have now been operating continuously for 24 hours putting down approximately 1200 tons of salt so far.
They tweeted: “Combination of high wind, heavy snowfall, freezing temps are making treacherous driving even on gritted roads. Be careful out there!”
Sussex Police are also advising drivers to completely clear their car of snow before travelling.
