The cheque presentation kicked off a weekend of celebration for the centre, with children’s entertainment and special offers on Saturday March 2 and Sunday March 3.

Robert Hillier, chairman of Hillier, said: “What better way to celebrate our new developments than mark the hard work and generous nature of the customers and staff that helped us get here?

“This money was raised last year, while our refurbishment work was taking place and our colleagues and visitors clearly didn’t get distracted from our very worthy cause.”

The garden centre has seen improvements including a new foyer, a new roof which improves its eco-status, new plant centre and revamped Café Rowan.

Accessibility has also been improved and 30 new parking spaces have been created adjacent to the entrance.
