One person has died after a car was seen in flames on the side of the A24 near Horsham this afternoon (Wednesday July 24).
Emergency services including an air ambulance were called to the scene northbound of the dual carriageway around one mile north of Buck Barn crossroads at around 4pm.
Early reports suggest that the victim was a young woman.
Sussex Police said a passing driver reported seeing a car on fire in a ditch.
A spokesperson for Sussex Police said: “A body was found in the car but enquiries are at an early stage and no further information is available at this time.”
West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said it was a single vehicle collision involving a tree.
The northbound lane is still closed (9.30pm this evening) and drivers are being redirected.
The air ambulance was stood down.
Slow traffic is being reported between Buck Barn crossroads in West Grinstead and Hop Oast Park And Ride Roundabout at Horsham.
