A musical theatre starlet and showgirl has swapped the bright lights and big stage of the West End to bring the world of dance to Horsham.
From jazz to burlesque, hip-hop to hen party workshops, Sophie McEwan of Forest Road, Horsham, is offering to bring a range of professional dance classes for all ages and abilities to enjoy.
“I’ve had a musical theatre career for five years working on cruise ships as a showgirl and touring the world,” said the 27-year-old.
“I’ve also been in West End musicals including Chicago, Rat Pack and Annie where I played opposite Su Pollard but I didn’t want to perform anymore because it’s an up and down business.”
With experience in singing, acting and a degree in theatre dance from the London Studio Centre behind her, Sophie has now set up ‘Sophie’s Studio’ with classes held at venues around Horsham.
She added: “I thought I’d set up a dance school where class standards are as high as those in London.
“It’s for anyone who loves to dance and get involved.
“I want people to put down the feather duster and just forget about work and the children for an hour a week.
“There’s no need to feel embarrassed.
“We can build your confidence up and just enjoy it.”
Sophie’s classes will start in the second week of January 2013 at Horsham venues such as The College of Richard Collyer and the Holbrook Club.
Classes include an adult jazz and repertoire class, a ‘Prams, Bums & Tums’ class where mum’s can bring the kids without the added cost of a creche and street dance hip hop classes for teenagers and children.
Sophie added: “It’s fabulous fun for all dancers to feel like true professionals. Be prepared to sweat it out.”
