VIDEO: A23 shut after van fire

The northbound carriageway on the A23 was closed following a van fire.

Police and firefighters were called to the incident between Handcross and Pease Pottage at around 11.10am today (Thursday April 7).

A spokesman for the fire service said crews in breathing gear used hose reels to extinguish the flames.

No injuries have been reported.

Police closed the carriageway for several hours whilst emergency services dealt with the fire.

It has now been re-opened.
