Two Horsham boxers enjoyed comfortable victories with new coaches in their corner in a show at Slough on Saturday night.
Horsham ABC’s Darryl Stannard and Ryan Brown both fought their way to comfortable wins on the road.
The show also saw Horsham’s two new ABA coaches Danny Essex and Merle Cavagnuolo take on their first rolls in both boxers’ corners.
They coached the boys well in their separate corners helping with advice in between rounds.
Stannard took on Ashford’s John Evans in his second-ever competitive bout.
Boxing at 79kg, the Horsham boxer was on top from the start, catching Evans with straight jabs and following up with hard rights.
Evans came back in the last round, but Stannard secured the victory on points.
Southwater’s Ryan Brown, at 69kg, took on Slough’s Dean Bevan, who had won his last two bouts.
The South Paw gave Bevan had a hard time and he was caught out with hard left hands to body and head.
Both men kept up a very fast pace and in the end, Brown, in his first bout for two years since coming out of the army, came out with a clear points win.
Horsham ABC match maker and training John Essex said: “The wins were very hard fought for both of them away from home. They both did really well and they are great results for us.
“Danny and Merle both did their ABA coaching course last month and it was the first time in the corner with them, so they did well as well.
“Danny had a license in Malta, but it did not cover him here so he and Merle did the course which is great for us.
“The two results were brilliant for both and they gave the boys a lot of good advice and have done lots of hard training with them.
“I am very, very pleased for both fighters and obviously for Danny and Merle, who are now full-time coaches at Horsham and it’s looking good for the future.
“We have got a lot of guys using the gym at the moment and we are getting all the guys very fit so they are ready for matches.”
Horsham ABC are holding their own annual home show next month.
The event at The Holbrook Club is on Saturday, November 22, and starts at 7pm. Tickets are £15 in advance or £17.50 on the night.
