Vandals caused £4,000 worth of damage to Southwater Skate Park last night (Tuesday September 4).

Contractors turned up this morning to continue refurbishment work after a separate vandalism incident to find that one of the top platforms had been pushed down.

The work was due to be finished this week in time for the Southwater Skate Jam, scheduled for Saturday September 14, which has now been cancelled.

A spokesperson for the parish council said: “We all have worked so hard with the district council and our sponsors to put on this skate jam, and are so disappointed that mindless criminal damage has forced us to cancel it. We have had to fence off the ramp for health and safety reasons, so it is now closed until further notice.

“The council will now have to decide whether the ramp is worth saving, as there is only a finite amount of funding available.”

If anyone has information relating to this criminal damage, could they contact the Parish Office on 01403 733202.
