The water supply to the affected homes in Burgess Hill has been turned back on following a burst main this morning, according to South East Water.

Fire crews from Burgess Hill and Haywards Heath were called out at around 5am this morning and are at the scene of the affected homes in Fairefield Road, Cromwell Road and Newport Road.

Some home owners were removed from their properties this morning and bottled water has been handed out to residents.

According to South East water, repair crews are on site and are working quickly to return supplies to normal.

Water has been re-routed around the network so customers further away from the burst should have had their supplies restored.

South East water has said for those without tap supplies, bottled water is available at Fairfield recreation ground in Cromwell Road. They added that the team is also helping more vulnerable customers and those whose homes have been flooded as a result of the burst.

South East Water’s operations director Dr Simon Earl said: “We know this incident has been distressing for our customers whose homes have been flooded and we are doing all we can to help them.

“At the same time, our repair team is working as quickly as possible to repair the burst pipe and get the last remaining customers’ supplies back to normal. We have an incident response team set up and they will be in place until all supplies have been restored.

“We would like to thank our customers for their patience and assure everyone we are doing everything we can during this emergency.”
