Two people became trapped after a car spun off the road between Wiston and Steyning earlier this afternoon (July 20).

The accident was reported on the A283 bypass near the junction with the A24 at around 1.30pm.

An elderly woman managed to free herself from the car but a man remained trapped in the vehicle.

Firefighters from Storrington and Shoreham along with a heavy rescue tender from Worthing rescued the man using hydraulic rescue equipment.

He was reported to be suffering from minor injuries and both were taken to hospital by ambulance for further checks.

The vehicle blocked the road for more than an hour and caused major delays.

Police re-opened one lane of the road at around 2.30pm.
