Roadworks and leftover rain water combined to cause serious traffic problems in Horsham at the end of last week.

Standing water held up drivers on the A24 from Broadbridge Heath up to Great Daux roundabout on January 7.

Meanwhile, roadworks and flood waters combined to hold up traffic near Horsham station, causing a queue of cars and buses to build up all along Station Road.

Drivers reported that water was running down North Street from the direction of Kings Road.

A spokesman for West Sussex County Council said: “We have had an excessive amount of rainfall recently and much of the surface water drainage system is struggling with the capacity.

“We have previously investigated the gullies at this location and identified remedial action to jet and clear, and it may be that further work is required.

“We will arrange further inspection to determine appropriate action.”
