Troy Greenfield, an electrical technician from gas distribution company SGN and who works at the Horsham depot, successfully completed the popular endurance race at Holmbush Farm, Faygate.

Chestnut Tree House, based in Arundel, was established in 2003 and currently cares for 300 life-limited children, both at the hospice and in families’ own homes.

Its goal is to provide the best quality of life for children, young people and their families, and to offer practical, social and spiritual support throughout each child’s life, however short it may be.

Troy, 37, from East Preston, explained what prompted him to take part: “I undertook Tough Mudder as a personal challenge, as I’m the sort of person who likes to test his own abilities. This wasn’t my first obstacle course run but it was the first one I completed that’s over a 10-mile distance. I wanted to make it worthwhile by doing some fundraising, particularly for a charity that’s local to me and I know that Chestnut Tree House does fantastic work.”

The £300 that Troy raised through sponsorship from friends, colleagues and family was matched by a donation from SGN’s Into Action fund that supports employees who give their time to charities, bringing the amount donated to Chestnut Tree House to £600.

Terrina Barnes, Corporate Fundraising Manager at Chestnut Tree House, said: “We are so grateful to Troy for taking part in the Tough Mudder event and choosing to support us. The money raised will make a real difference to families of children with life-shortening conditions in Sussex and South East Hampshire.”
