Tributes paid to ‘loving, caring’ great-grandmother from Henfield

Johanna Moulds, known as Jo, ‘went to the ground’ in High Street, Henfield, at about 10.45am on Friday January 30, police said.

Mrs Moulds, 79, of Wantley Hill Estate, Henfield, was taken to Worthing Hospital for treatment for a fractured hip.

Her injuries were not thought to be life-threatening but she died on Monday March 2.

In a statement, her family said: “Jo will forever be remembered as the lady that gave her all. She was loving, caring, considerate and generous.

“She was a mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother. She was an amazing friend to all that knew her and leaves behind her brother, her six children, her 15 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

“Jo has always stood out, even with her tiny stature. Her smile, her gentleness, her compassion, her love for life and the love for her family and friends are just a few of the great attributes she had - not forgetting her immaculate nails too.

“It has been a very hard and sudden battle for Jo, one that devastatingly she did not win. Her children stood with her every day during her fight and they never gave up hope.

“When Jo passed she was surrounded by her family, love and admiration. The most painful goodbyes are the ones that should never have been.

“Jo, God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be, so he put his arms around you and whispered ‘Come with me’.

“With tearful eyes we watched you slowly fade away. Although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay.

“A golden heart stopped beating, hardworking hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us he only takes the best.”

Her funeral will be held at Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Church in Tanyards, Henfield, at 10am on Tuesday March 17.

The favourite place for Mrs Moulds to visit was Monkey World in Dorset and her family have suggested that instead of flowers, any donations could be made to the charity at www.justgiving.com/tjcmf

Police said she was walking behind a black Honda CRV when she went to the ground.

PC Doug Park said: “We need to speak to anyone who saw what happened or Mrs Moulds on the ground. If you were in High Street at the time please contact us.”
