A ‘devoted mother and wife’ who was often seen tending to her garden died after a crash in Storrington on Saturday (December 19).

Tributes have been paid to Eileen Garas, 90, of Hampers Lane, Storrington, who was involved in a collision with a yellow Honda motorcycle on the A283.

She died at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton having been flown to the hospital.

Her son Anthony Garas said: “My mother, Eileen, was born in Staffordshire and lived in London before moving down to Sussex with her husband in 1973, shortly before he passed away.

“She was well known in the village and worked in Greenfields for a number of years before its closure.

“She took full advantage of her new leisure time and enjoyed being outside in her beloved garden, tending the flowers and feeding the birds.

“Eileen was a loving, devoted mother and wife. I loved her dearly and she will be missed by all who knew her.

“We are deeply shocked and saddened by our sudden loss and we ask that our privacy be respected at this sad time.”

Police have renewed an appeal for witnesses to the collision, which happened at about 10.25am.

Anyone with information can email collision.appeal@sussex.pnn.police.uk or call 101 quoting Operation Binham.
