THREE sisters from Faygate triumphed over 11 other chess teams when they came first in a national tournament.

Twelve teams from all over Britain took part in the girls national chess finals in Nottingham on Saturday March 24 which was separated into different age categories.

Freya, 11, and nine-year-old twins, Amalia and Yelena (all pictured here), were in the under 11s team and their proud mother, Victoria, said that they all have great potential.

She said: “Freya has qualified for the England trials already so she has travelled all over the world taking part in chess tournaments.

“They’re all quite used to playing in them now. I wouldn’t say we go to one every week but it feels like that sometimes.”

The under 11s team included 17 girls from around Sussex. Details of the tournaments can be found on the Sussex Junior Chess website at http://www.sussexjuniorchess.org/
