Long delays on the trains are expected to run into the rush hour this afternoon (April 30) as rail operators work to fix a fault on the line near Clapham Junction.
There has been major disruption on every line in the Southern network since this morning’s rush hour.
An update on the Southern website said: “Problems with the conductor rail between Wandsworth Common and Clapham Junction have caused damage to a number of trains. Engineers are working to move the trains. Once they have moved repairs will be made to the damaged conductor rail and this may take up to three hours. Because of the severity of the problem, trains are likely to be disrupted until the end of the day.
“Trains between Balham and London Victoria / Watford Junction are being delayed by up to 90 minutes.
“A limited bus service is running between Gatwick Airport and London Victoria.
“Because of the level of disruption, passengers are advised where possible to avoid using London Victoria and use London Blackfriars or London Waterloo instead.”
