A Southwater resident has his sights firmly set on Paris as he gears up to take part in the London to Paris bike ride for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Jason Cunnington is taking on a strict training regime in order to prepare for the 480km cycle which starts on July 4 and should take four days to complete.

Jason joined the Spire Dunedin Hospital in Reading in September last year as a GP Liaison Manager having worked for Bupa for 18 years, so is very aware of the issues facing patients with any serious illnesses including cancer.

After only being at the hospital for a week or so, he was asked by his manager, David McIntosh, whether he would be willing to join him in supporting Macmillan on the bike ride, and he agreed straight away.

Jason’s wife Tracy Cunnington, said: “Jason has always enjoyed a local bike ride on the Downs Link with the children, but never ridden seriously, so this was quite a step up!

“He was keen to rise to the challenge though as he had often talked about running the London Marathon and never quite plucked up the courage to enter! This seemed like an ideal opportunity to enter a similarly challenging event, whilst doing what he can to raise as much as possible for a very worthy cause.”
